This story begins a hundred years ago. In the 1920s in Jamnagar, Gujarat, a king raised a long earthen bund to hold the sea at bay. With that single act, the landscape was split into two — one held freshwater, the other saline. A century later, the bund still holds, slowly giving rise to six or seven interwoven ecosystems that thrum with birdsong and come alive each migratory season. Today, it is a safe haven for at least 321 species of birds, including 29 that are globally threatened.
