Along the River's Edge: The Black-bellied Terns of Chambal

Every summer, black-bellied terns arrive to nest on the islands of the Chambal River. But the nesting season comes with a series of challenges. Parents must protect eggs from extreme heat, dust storms, egg-eating crows and monitor lizards. Add to that human-made pressures of Illegal mining, climate change, drying habitats and sudden water releases from dams. Thankfully, conservationists and local communities are coming together to help protect the parents and their nests.
