On the edge of Jamnagar’s chaotic industrial sprawl, Khijadia Bird Sanctuary offers refuge to birds on the move. Each migratory season, thousands stop here to feed and recover before flying on. The wetland shelters at least 321 bird species, including 29 that are globally threatened. But for D. S. Vaghasiya, the Range Forest Officer, Khijadia is more than a protected area. For her, it is a slice of heaven that nurtures and nourishes every being who arrives here.
