A: They range across the High Himalayas (India, Nepal, Bhutan) and regions in Europe, Asia, and North Africa, including Mount Everest up to 8000m.

A: There are nine subspecies.

Q: What is their habitat?

A: Alpine meadows, cliffs, and rocky slopes above 3500m for breeding; in non-breeding seasons, they inhabit woodlands, scrubs, and lower agricultural areas.

Q: How can you identify an alpine accentor?

A: Look for a sparrow-sized bird with grey-brown and chestnut coloring, a yellow and black bill, pink legs, streaked grey body, chestnut belly with white streaks, and two spotted wingbars.

Q: Do alpine accentors sing?

A: Yes, they have a loud, musical song and sing from the ground, rocks, or in flight.

Q: What do alpine accentors eat?

A: They eat insects, spiders, snails, and earthworms. They also eat seeds and berries.
