Are barn owls found in India?
Most widespread of all owls, barn owls are found all across India, except in the Himalayas, Trans-Himalayas, and Thar desert. Their preferred habitat is open countryside, farms, fields, rural and urban areas.
How can you ID barn owls?
Barn owls have distinct heart-shaped facial discs and black eyes. They also have broad, rounded wings and sparsely feathered long legs. They produce a piercing scream-like call while in flight and hiss when threatened.
Where do barn owls nest?
Barn owls often nest in buildings, barns, and factories in the middle of crowded settlements. They also use old nests, or build crude nests lined with shredded regurgitated pellets.
