India (Himalayan range states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh); also, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, China, (bordering India and Bhutan)

What is the preferred habitat of the Himalayan musk deer?

Alpine forests above 2,500 m and edges of alpine forests and meadows with a preference for steep slopes.  

What is the IUCN status of the Himalayan musk deer? 

The Himalayan musk deer is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
