The call of an Indian pitta is short and consists of two-note whistles.


What do these birds eat?

They are mostly insectivorous, feeding on insects and invertebrates on the forest floor.


Where do Indian pittas breed? Do they breed in the Indian subcontinent?

The breeding season of Indian pittas lies between April and September. They are known to breed in Central India, the Western ghats, and at the foothills of the Himalayas.
