Do rat snakes eat only rats? 

Indian rat snakes eat rodents but they also eat frogs, lizards, birds, fish, other snakes and insects. They use their body weight and kill by constricting their prey. Rat snakes help keep rodent populations in check since they have a voracious appetite. 

Do rat snakes and cobras look similar? 

At a glance, rat snakes and cobras look similar however black lines between scales on their lip is what distinguish them from cobras. They are also the favourite prey of cobras wherever they co-occur. 

Is the Indian rat snake venomous? 

No, Indian rat snakes are non-venomous snakes, falling under the constrictor category. When threatened, they can puff up their throat and make "growl-hiss" sounds.
