What is a globe skimmer?

Globe skimmers, also known as wandering glider are a wide-ranging migrating dragonfly that is among the highest flying insect in the world.

What is the lifecycle of a globe skimmer? 

Globe skimmers begin life underwater as nymphs. These predatory nymphs metamorphose in 40 to 60 days into large winged adults, thanks to their voracious appetites. They then undertake the longest known insect migration, single individuals flying up to 6000 kms.

Are globe skimmers harmful? 

No, globe skimmers are not dangerous to humans at all. In fact, they are regarded as friends of farmers since they feed on numerous crop pests.

What are threats to globe skimmers? 

Though globe skimmers are widespread, they are affected by pollution of waterbodies, use of agrochemicals and loss of aquatic habitats needed for their development.
