WHAT IS THE UNCONTEST?
In 2022, RoundGlass Sustain launched #TheUncontest, an experiment in collaborative storytelling that was a resounding success.
The theme for 2024 is: A World of Waste
The world has a waste problem, and it is has infiltrated everything - our oceans, rivers, mountains and forests. Research indicates that half of all sea turtles have ingested plastic. By 2050, experts predict there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish. Even Mount Everest, now grapples with a significant trash problem due to increased unchecked tourism.
In 2021, we published a photo essay curated from Sanctuary Asia's 'In Our Filth' campaign, a crowd-sourced photo project that busts India’s “pristine wilderness” narrative. Our theme for 2024 advances this ongoing dialogue on waste and its environmental impact, pushing participants to see how nature is not just infiltrated by trash but is forced to navigate it, adapt to it or simply succumb under its pressures. We are looking for photographs of how trash impacts wild spaces in lesser-known habitats -- urban jungles, your neighbourhood green patch, a forest you may have loved, a wetland you frequent. We are also interested in photographs that highlight how trash impacts diverse species. But most importantly, we are seeking photographs that tell a story.
When you send in your photographs, tell us why you took the photograph, where did you take it, what made this visual significant, and what you learned from the experience.
