Where are Eurasian lynx found? Are they found in India?

Eurasian lynx are found in dense boreal (taiga) forests, mixed with deciduous woodlands, rocky mountain slopes and Trans-Himalayan cold desert (4,000-5,500m). The geographical range of Eurasian lynx extends from Western Europe to the Pacific coast. They are found in Russia, Central Asia, and the Tibetan Plateau. In India, they are found in Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir.

What do Eurasian lynx look like?

Eurasian lynx have a 4-5 cm black ear tuft which enhances their directional hearing. They have a tail ranging from 11 to 24 cm with a solid black tip. Their furry paws, 7-12 cm wide, act like built-in snowshoes, spreading weight thinly so they can glide across deep snow without getting stuck. They have golden eyes with a reflective layer which provides them 6x better night vision than humans.

What is the conservation status of Eurasian lynx?

Eurasian lynx are least concern globally but their isolated European population (Balkans) is endangered.
