Where are Green sea turtles found?
Green sea turtles are found across the world, except the Artic and the Antarctic. In Indian waters, they are the most commonly seen turtles in Lakshadweep Islands.
What do Green sea turtles eat?
Green sea turtle primarily eat algae. Young turtles are known to also eat jellyfish, crabs and marine invertebrates.
What is the life cycle and nesting period of Green sea turtles?
Adult green sea turtles migrate from foraging habitats to their natal grounds (where they themselves hatched) for nesting every 2 to 5 years. Eggs hatch after two months of incubation and the hatchlings head towards sea, where they spend several years in offshore pelagic areas. Juvenile green sea turtles return to the shore, for foraging and their adult life. Adults spend much of their time in seagrass meadows till they return to their natal grounds for nesting.
