Nilgiri tahr looks similar to a goat but is genetically much closer to sheep.

Where is Nilgiri tahr found? 

Nilgiri tahr is found in the Nilgiris, north of the Palghat gap and in the southern Western Ghats, in the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Is the Nilgiri tahr under threat? 

Yes, the Nilgiri tahr is Endangered on the IUCN Red List. Some common threats to their population include habitat loss and fragmentation due to agriculture and plantations, competition from livestock grazing and poaching for meat.
